A PARENTS VIEW

The first memories of Nikki-Joe going to Karate were “where are we going tonight?” Is it in Hollington, in the church hall Mount Pleasant, Norman Road, Sacred Heart School or the church hall next to the park.

How things have changed, now we have three sons at Karate in their own dedicated Dojo. Nikki started when he was 8 years old, now he is 18 and teaches children and adults. Ashley now a 1st Dan, also helps teach, he started aged 5 and is now 13. Max also started aged 5, he is now 7. Max trains with the younger children and is very confident with his progress.

All three of the boys have taken part in many competitions with great success in both Kata and sparring. Sensei Paul will confirm how good Nikki and Ashley are at sparring by the hits they dish out. Although the sparring in competition looks violent, it’s well controlled by both fighters and referees.

At home the boys all get on well together. All three are confident and polite to other people. They have never caused any problems with the skills they have learned. We hope the only times they need to use their skills are in the controlled environment of the Dojo.

I would encourage any parent to stick with it when their child doesn’t want to go, don’t give up; when they get older, it gets easier. For the younger ones Sensei Paul makes the lessons as much fun as possible. It’s a relaxed friendly atmosphere for them to learn in.

I hope that all my boys continue with their Karate and wish them luck for the future.
